DJ/MC Bud’s introduction to music started in the early 80s with reggae sound systems in East London (Saxon, Coxsone, Unity and Gemi Magic) then the sounds of rare groove took over with systems like Funkadelic and Zero Gravity. By the mid 80s Bud had gone over to Canada and Jamaica for 6 weeks. On his return a close friend named Archie said to Bud that they were going to a local acid rave at a venue called Uppercuts in Forest gate. This was around 1988 when acid house started to take off. The next few years were spent raving it up at various warehouses all around the UK.

Bud first learned to mix from watching his close friend Archie who was a regular on Centerforce. He then first picked up the mic for the Boogie Boys (Brok up & Spanner) who later went onto Rush FM where the likes of the Redant & Remarc were championing the jungle sound. Being around the original junglists soon earned Bud respect as a great mic man and DJ.

In 2000, Bud was asked to do a radio slot on Desire 89.4 FM. This is when Bud came back to drum and bass representing it on a primarily garage station and this was the first time Bud and Chef started doing a radio show together. After moving on from Desire, Bud was asked to join the Internet station drumnbassworldwide.co.uk run by DJ Rips & Wako. After being on the station for a couple of years alongside Chef, Edwards, Riche Rich and many others, Bud and Chef had a opportunity to do a guest set on Kool which then in turn led to their permanent Thursday night show 7-9pm.

Listen to DJ Bud every Thursday evening between 1900-2100 with DJ Chef.

Born in East London inspired by his next-door neighbour DJ Leader 1.

Chef started playing at school discos and local house party’s by 1989 chef started listening to pirate stations – like Centerforce and Fantasy FM. By 1991 the sounds of local stations Rush FM and Kool FM captivated Chefs desire to start buying the new sound of the UK Underground.

After playing on the FM dial for a number of years on various pirate stations from Rude FM, Addiction, Rude Awakening, Playaz FM, Origin FM and London’s first internet radio station Interface, Chef had his chance to play a guest set on the legendary Kool FM alongside DJ Bud. The pair took over the slot held by Marly Marl and Remarc. Since the first live show, the pair currently hold down every Thursday night 7-9pm.

Over the years Chef’s show has featured many of the industry’s players: Ray Keith, Asides, Patife, Cleveland Watkiss, MC Singing Fats, MC AD, MC Flux, Heist, Hlz, Epoc live (the first ever live band to play on Kool from the studio), Sigma, Craggs and Parallel, Vapour & Jemone, Redeye’s, Zero T, Mosus, Soul intent, Serum, Phil Source (Vampire Records), Stanza, Silver, DJ Ollie, Critical Impact, Basher (RAM), Savage Rehab (V), David Boomah, Suhk knight & Squarewave (New World Audio) and Hamilton (RAM).

In 2007 Chef set up Caution Recordings with support from a new breed of producers. The first was Serious Intent & Certain Criteria. Chef then found a new Italian producer called Hellraizer aka Hlz who now records with Mosus as NFM (Need for Mirrors). Chef also released an EP from his Kool comrades Smokesta and Pacso. With new projects on the horizon, watch this space!

Mc Co-Gee, is one of the first and longest serving MC on Kool London hailing from the reggae/ragga/soul & hip hop sound system days where he started performing with the likes of Peter Bouncer on the now defunct Eastman sound system amongst other sounds where he did guest appearances.

Throughout the years he has developed and refreshed his style always keeping on top of the game with his topical and some would say outspoken lyrics, but one thing for sure is this artist has never been afraid to tackle topical issues in lyrical form no matter what!

A true soldier and a breath of fresh air from a jungle drum and bass living legend.

I started to DJ in my bedroom from 1990 mixing hip hop and then making the progression to hardcore and drum & bass. In 1994 I got my first radio set on London's Rude FM which was originally on 104.3 but then moved on the dial to 88.2. I played on Rude FM for 14 years before getting my break on Kool. In 1999 I decided to step into the world of production as this was the most natural progression from DJing. After a few years of messing around I finally got my debut release under the belt in 2001 when I released my first drum & bass 12" with loads of help from the mighty Dylan. It was released on Spektrum Audi.

I was also lucky enough to collaborate with B-Key on a track called Default, which was released on XXX no 7. Unfortunately, it took 6 more years for me to have my name on another release this time on a VIP mix of Donny and Blik's Amputation which came out in September 2007 on the Evil has a Name EP on Barcode Recordings. I am currently doing more production on recognised drum & bass labels.

I've played for promoters like Therapy Sessions, Renegade Hardware, Tech:nology, Autopsy, Pirate Sessions and many more others over the years. I have also played on a number of internet radio stations over the years from Life FM, Twisted Frequency, UK Rumble, DnB Worldwide and many others.

Listen to DJ E every alternate Tuesday night between 2300-0100 rotating with Rob Blaze.

Growing up in the Lake District was not the most auspicious start for a jungle DJ but that all changed when Fatboy (who isn’t actually fat…) copped a listen to tape packs with the likes of Easygroove, Ratty & Tango, GE Real and more.

Fatboy took position in Manchester’s burgeoning D&B scene in ’96 promoting and DJing at Champion Sounds with fresh and established talent such as UnCut, Sonic & Silver, Sappo, MC Mad Rush and many more.  He then took the helm of the D&B department at the legendary Eastern Bloc Records and played at nights, venues and radio stations such as Hysteria, World Dance, Movement, The End, Sankeys Soap, Lakota, Ministry of Sound as well as overseas work in Northern Ireland and France.

Now on Kool since 2005, Fatboy continues to drop his unique mix of connoisseurs drum & bass.
